Support for Survivors of Suicide
In the United States there are several million new survivors of suicide in any ten year period and about 500 groups that provide them support. In Asia, which has 60% of the world’s suicides, there are about 50 to 100 million new survivors of suicide each year, and few support groups or services for them. In an effort to provide Global Support for Survivors, SPI will train mental health professionals at qualified social service agencies in a comprehensive program of support for survivors of suicide. In the United States, a Model Program for Survivors, which will be extended to other cities, is underway in New York City. In China the training has been completed and is being implemented in Beijing.
