SPI's New York City Walk for Life was held Saturday, May 8 2010 in Riverside Park. Due to the rain we moved the walk’s registration and program into the Boat Basin Café. Providentially, as the 141 dedicated walkers were about to embark the rain stopped, the sun came out, and it turned into a beautiful day. Walking in support of SPI’s suicide prevention initiatives were a psychiatric research team from Columbia University’s Medical Center, a diverse group of students from area high schools and colleges, and survivors walking in memory of loved ones who lost their lives to suicide. Walk for Life also took place in Macon, GA on June 12th, in Minneapolis, MN on June 13th, and in Portland, OR on June 19th.
Planning for Walk for Life 2011, to be held in various locations nationwide in the spring and summer, will begin in January.
