Mission Statement
Suicide Prevention International (SPI) is the only not-for-profit organization that develops, implements, and funds suicide prevention projects in the United States and worldwide. SPI utilizes its international network of experts to decide what projects are most likely to prevent suicide, selects the investigators to work on them, and is an active partner in conducting the projects from beginning to end. SPI is also concerned with providing support to survivors of suicide - children, youth, and adults who have lost a relative or friend to suicide.

Dorothy Parker Play To Benefit SPI
SPI is to be the beneficiary of a play by and about Dorothy Parker entitled "Those Whistling Lads!". The play "brings light-hearted stories and satirical poems of Dorothy Parker to life, drawing you into the world of loves and friendships that inspired them." A member of the famed 1920’s Algonquin Round Table and a critic for The New Yorker, Dorothy Parker was well-known for her stinging witticisms. Purchase tickets to "Those Whistling Lads" here to benefit SPI.

Dominique's Walk
Dominique's Walk, held on Saturday, May 30, 2009 was a moving and successful event. The brief but excellent program and the five kilometer walk along the beautifully landscaped promenade in Riverside Park along the Hudson River raised awareness of the problem of youth suicide and SPI's initiatives to prevent it. The event was co-chaired by Linda Lerner, SPI Board Chair, and Caren Lerner Chair of SPI's Youth Suicide Prevention Committee. Pictures and more news of the event will be coming soon.

Coping with the Loss of a Patient to Suicide (click to view presentation)
SPI and the American Psychiatric Association (APA), in a joint effort to help therapists deal with the loss of a patient to suicide, are presenting Therapists Reaction to the Suicide of a Patient, an audio-slide presentation by Dr. Herbert Hendin. To complement this presentation, teleconferences of small groups of APA members are planned during which problems in the aftermath of such a loss can be discussed with experts. Further information about participation is available in the presentation. See the story in the APA's Psychiatric News.
